The 8 Days Uganda Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Safari is an unforgettable primate adventure combining two mountain gorilla trekking experiences.

one in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and another in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with golden monkey trekking, chimpanzee trekking, cultural experiences, and a Bigodi Wetland nature walk.

The safari begins in Kigali, Rwanda, and takes you through the spectacular volcanic landscapes of northern Rwanda before crossing into southwestern Uganda. You will have the rare opportunity to trek mountain gorillas in two different protected areas, allowing you to experience the unique landscapes and trekking environments of Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Your Rwanda experience also includes golden monkey trekking in the Virunga volcanic forests and an Iby’Iwacu cultural experience, where you can learn about local traditions, community life, history, crafts, music, dance, and traditional ways of living.

The safari then continues into Uganda, passing through the scenic Kigezi Highlands and rolling hills before reaching Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for your second gorilla trekking experience. From Bwindi, the journey continues to Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda’s renowned primate destination, where you will trek chimpanzees and explore the biodiversity of the Bigodi Wetland.

With a combination of primates, forests, volcanic landscapes, cultural encounters, scenic countryside, and local experiences, this safari is designed for travelers who want an immersive East African primate adventure led by a professional local female safari guide.

This safari combines three of East Africa's most sought-after primate experiences: mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda, mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda, and chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. The addition of golden monkey trekking, the Iby’Iwacu cultural experience, Kigali sightseeing and the Bigodi Wetland walk creates a diverse journey that goes beyond wildlife viewing to include culture, conservation, local communities and landscape exploration.

The safari is particularly suited to travelers who want to experience the mountain gorillas in two different protected areas while also exploring Uganda's famous primate forests.

TRAVEL SMART

Safari Tips

01 Gorilla trekking requires a reasonable level of fitness because the terrain can be steep, muddy and uneven.
02 Wear waterproof hiking boots with good ankle support.
03 Carry a waterproof jacket because weather conditions in the mountain forests can change quickly.
04 A walking stick can be useful on steep or slippery sections and is normally available through the trekking arrangements.
05 Consider hiring a porter for the gorilla or chimpanzee treks. Porters can assist with day packs and provide additional support on challenging terrain.
06 Follow the instructions of park guides and trackers at all times when near wildlife.
07 Maintain the required distance from gorillas and avoid touching or attempting to feed wildlife.
08 Avoid wearing strong perfumes during primate trekking.
09 Keep noise to a minimum when approaching chimpanzees, golden monkeys and gorillas.
10 Use flash photography only where permitted; follow the specific instructions of the guides and park authorities.
11 Pack waterproof protection for cameras, phones and other electronic equipment.
12 Because you will trek in two different gorilla destinations, expect different forest conditions and trekking experiences in Rwanda and Uganda.
13 Keep your passport and important travel documents secure during the Rwanda–Uganda border crossing.
14 Carry some Rwandan and Ugandan currency for small personal purchases, depending on your needs.
15 Start each trekking day with a good breakfast and carry sufficient drinking water.
16 Weather and wildlife locations can affect trekking duration, so maintain a flexible attitude.
17 The safari involves several long road transfers, so comfortable clothing and appropriate rest during journeys are recommended.
18 Book gorilla and chimpanzee permits well in advance, particularly during peak travel periods.
19 Respect local communities, cultural sites and photography preferences during the cultural experience.
20 Tipping is appreciated for guides, trackers, porters and lodge staff when you feel the service deserves it.
21 Keep the forests clean by carrying all non-biodegradable waste back with you.
22 Most importantly, follow responsible tourism practices and help protect the forests and primates that make this safari possible.
