Your Safari Itinerary
Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before preparing for the main highlight of your safari — mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Carry your packed lunch, sufficient drinking water, a camera, sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, sunglasses and a rain jacket. Bwindi is a rainforest environment, and conditions can change quickly, while the forest trails can be steep, muddy and slippery.
Your guide will transfer you to the appropriate gorilla trekking briefing point. At the park headquarters, you will meet the ranger team and receive a briefing about the trekking rules, safety procedures and responsible gorilla viewing.
After the briefing, begin your trek into Bwindi's dense rainforest. The experienced ranger guides and trackers will lead you through the forest while searching for the gorilla family allocated to your trekking group.
The duration of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are located and how far they have moved. It can take several hours and involves walking over uneven and sometimes challenging terrain.
When you locate the gorillas, the experience becomes truly unforgettable. You may observe a dominant silverback protecting the family, females feeding or caring for their young, juveniles playing in the vegetation and different members of the family moving through the forest in search of food.
Your ranger guide will explain the behaviour of the gorillas and ensure that the encounter follows conservation guidelines. You will have the permitted viewing time to observe, photograph and appreciate these remarkable great apes in their natural environment.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, relaxation and refreshments.
Later in the afternoon or evening, depending on your energy and available time, take part in a community or cultural walk around the Bwindi area. You may meet members of the Batwa community and learn about traditional ways of life, local livelihoods, crafts, music, stories and the relationship between communities and the forest.
Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
