This 12-day Uganda safari combines chimpanzee trekking, gorilla trekking, big-game viewing, boat cruises, rhino tracking, cultural experiences, island exploration, bird watching, and scenic countryside journeys across some of Uganda’s most remarkable national parks and conservation areas.

The safari begins in Entebbe with a visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and an Equator experience on Lake Victoria before travelling north to Murchison Falls National Park. Here, you will track rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, enjoy game drives across the savannah, visit the Top of Murchison Falls, and take a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of the falls.

The journey continues to Kibale Forest National Park, one of Uganda’s premier destinations for chimpanzee trekking and primate encounters. You will then explore Queen Elizabeth National Park with game drives and a Kazinga Channel boat cruise before travelling through the Ishasha sector toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the highlight of the safari — gorilla trekking.

After the gorilla experience, the safari continues to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi for a traditional canoe experience before heading to Lake Mburo National Park for wildlife viewing. The safari ends with a morning game drive and a return journey to Entebbe, including a stop at the Equator.

Throughout the journey, you will travel with a professional local female safari guide who will provide information about Uganda’s wildlife, forests, communities, landscapes, and conservation efforts.

This 12-day itinerary brings together Uganda's forests, savannahs, wetlands, lakes, mountains and local communities in one extended journey. From chimpanzee encounters at Ngamba Island and Kibale to rhino tracking at Ziwa, wildlife viewing in Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo, gorilla trekking in Bwindi, and the peaceful landscapes of Lake Bunyonyi, the safari offers a broad introduction to Uganda's natural and cultural heritage.

Your Safari Itinerary

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional local female safari guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in and freshening up.
Depending on your arrival time, you will proceed to Nakiwogo Landing Site and take a boat across Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The sanctuary provides a protected home for chimpanzees that have been rescued from situations including illegal wildlife trade and other threats.
At Ngamba Island, you will have an opportunity to observe the chimpanzees from the viewing area during a feeding session. You may see them climbing, feeding, playing, grooming, and interacting with one another. The experience also provides insight into chimpanzee conservation, animal welfare, rehabilitation, and the work carried out by the sanctuary.
After the chimpanzee experience, take a boat excursion across Lake Victoria toward Lwaji Island, where you can experience one of Uganda's Equator points. You will have time for photographs and to enjoy the scenery of Lake Victoria.
Return by boat to Nakiwogo Landing Site and continue with an Entebbe city experience, including a visit to the local craft village where you can see and shop for locally made Ugandan crafts.

TRAVEL SMART

Safari Tips

01 Start gorilla and chimpanzee trekking days early and follow all instructions from guides and rangers.
02 Gorilla trekking can involve steep, muddy and slippery terrain, so sturdy waterproof footwear is strongly recommended.
03 Consider hiring a porter for gorilla or chimpanzee trekking if you would like assistance with your daypack or difficult sections of the trail.
04 Carry a waterproof jacket because weather conditions can change quickly, particularly in Bwindi and the southwestern highlands.
05 Keep a safe distance from wildlife and never attempt to feed or approach animals.
06 Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, as animals move freely through their natural habitats.
07 Bring binoculars for bird watching and distant wildlife.
08 Keep cameras and other electronics protected from rain during forest activities and boat excursions.
09 Respect local communities, cultural traditions and photography guidelines during community visits.
10 Follow all conservation rules during gorilla and chimpanzee encounters.
11 Keep noise to a minimum when observing wildlife.
12 Carry some small cash for souvenirs, crafts, tips and other personal expenses.
13 Inform your guide in advance about dietary requirements or special arrangements.
14 Allow flexibility in the itinerary because road conditions, weather, wildlife movements and conservation requirements can occasionally affect timing.
15 For international departures, allow sufficient time for the transfer from the safari route to Entebbe International Airport.
