Tour Overview

Discover Uganda’s cultural traditions and the geographical significance of the Equator on this half-day excursion to Kayabwe in Mpigi District. The tour combines a visit to a traditional drum-making site with an experience at one of Uganda’s well-known Equator stops.

The Kayabwe Equator site marks the imaginary 0-degree line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Located approximately 72 kilometres from Kampala, Kayabwe has developed into an important commercial and tourism stop for travellers heading towards southern Uganda.

Your journey begins at 8:00 AM with pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe by your female driver-guide. After a brief introduction and tour briefing, travel towards Mpigi District and stop at Mpambire, where local artisans make traditional drums and other musical instruments.

Watch a demonstration of how the instruments are made and enjoy a musical performance by the drum makers. You will then continue to Kayabwe for the Equator experience, guided explanations, photographs and time to browse local craft shops. A lunch break at a local restaurant completes the visit before you return to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
