3 Days Mount Bisoke Hiking Tour is an interesting hiking adventure that will allow you to climb mount Bisoke which is dormant and one of the popular Volcanoes in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park to view its stunning crater lake, usually combined with a Gorilla trek or community visit. The hike takes 6–8 hours (4 hours up, 2 hours down) and is moderately challenging, featuring steep, often muddy trails. Mount Bisoke is one of the 8 Virunga volcanic mountains that rise up to an altitude of 3,711 meters above sea level. The mountain is home of different primates like the endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, animals like elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and different bird species, among others. Mount Bisoke is surrounded by lush bamboo forests, Hypercom forests, Alpine meadows and also boasts the largest Crater Lake on top. During the 3 days mount Bisoke hiking tour, you will also engage in a cultural tour where you will visit Ibyiwacu cultural village and also go for a city tour in Kigali city, where this tour starts and ends with a Professional English-speaking female driver guide.
You will be welcomed by our female driver guide, who will brief you about the safari and then transfer you to Kigali for a city tour. During the Kigali city tour, you will be able to visit craft markets where you will buy craft items and souvenirs, the Kigali genocide memorial centre, where you will learn about the 1994 brutal killing of people, Kimironko market, where you will interact with the local traders and then go for lunch in one of the restaurants. After lunch, you will start the journey to Musanze, which takes about 2 to 3 hours’ drive and on the way, you will have stunning views of the rolling hills, traditional homesteads, local people, and beautiful scenery among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, you will meet with your driver guide and transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-hike briefing. After the briefing, you will be allocated a knowledgeable park guide who is well conversant about the mountain and then drive to the starting point, where you will be given a hiking stick and then hire a porter to help you carry your backpack and also give you a pull or push when you reach steep slopes. Climbing Mount Bisoke is a full-day activity that takes about 4 hours, and during trekking, you will pass through thick vegetation types like lush bamboo forest, Hypericum forest and sub-alpine, where you will have great views of animals like buffaloes, elephants, different bird species, primates like golden monkeys, gorillas among others. When you reach the summit, you will have stunning views of the crater lakes, beautiful scenery, view the Virunga mountain ranges, take incredible pictures, among others. After the spectacular views, you will have a picnic lunch and then start descending to the starting point, which takes about 2 hours. Upon arrival, you will meet up with your driver guide and return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight.
You will have a relaxed breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go on an interesting cultural tour. During the cultural tour, you will visit Ibyiwacu cultural village, where you will be able to interact with the local people, learn about their tradition, history, culture, and way of life, visit their homesteads and farmlands, listen to ancient stories, and taste different dishes, among others. After the cultural tour, you will return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will meet your female driver guide who will transfer you to Kigali international airport for your departure flight or transfer to the lodge.
