For a successful gorilla trekking Tour in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, pack essential gear for a rainy, high-altitude rainforest:

Essential Clothing & Gear
  • Hiking Boots: Waterproof, broken-in boots with good ankle support are crucial for steep, muddy terrain.
  • Long-Sleeved Shirts/Trousers: Wear lightweight, moisture-wicking, neutral-coloured (khaki, green, brown) clothing to protect from thorny branches and insects.
  • Rain Gear: A high-quality, lightweight, waterproof jacket or poncho is mandatory, even in the dry season.
  • Gardening Gloves: Protective gloves help navigate thick vegetation and nettles.
  • Gaiters: These prevent mud, ants, and debris from getting into your boots.
  • Warm Layers: A fleece or sweater is needed for chilly, early morning starts.
  • Thick Socks: Woollen socks help prevent blisters.
Daypack & Equipment
  • Daypack: A waterproof backpack to carry your gear.
  • Camera & Binoculars: Bring extra batteries and a waterproof bag for electronics.
  • Walking Poles: Helpful for stability; can be hired at the park headquarters.
  • Hydration/Snacks: Carry at least 1-2 litres of water and energy-boosting snacks.
